USPHL Notes – Jan 2015

USPHL Observations

It looks like there is an upper tier of teams in the USPHL this season and they are as follows.

1. Jersey Hitmen
2. Philly Jr. Flyers
3. Boston Jr. Bruins

The Jr. Flyers are lead offensively by 94′ Trevor Gooch (Army), 94′ Ryan Badger and Gregg Burmaster (Clinton, NY), a Colorado College recruit. The Jr. Flyers are also very strong in net where 94′ Joseph Young (Union) and Curtis Frye (formerly of the USNTDP) have seen the bulk of the starts. The other goalie who’s played for the Jr. Flyers this season is 95′ Jeff Hextall.

The Jr. Flyers also have defenseman 5’11-155 Christian Meike (Michigan) and 5’9-165 96′ F Anthony Siderio (Connecticut). Other players to watch from this team are 98′ D David Melaragni (Northeastern), 94′ F Dylan Pitt, 95′ F Ron Greco and 94′ F Zach Lynes.

More on Curtis Frye : The goaltender played at Phillips-Andover as a sophomore and was a bit of a surprised to be taken for the USNTDP that year. The next season he had an injury and didn’t play much. Following that, he returned to junior hockey and played in the USPHL with Suffolk PAL. Frye and Hunter Miska each had a rough year in Ann Arbor and the team brought in Thatcher Demko (Boston College) to take over some of the workload. Miska is currently in the BCHL and will go to Minnesota-Duluth next season.

David Farrance : The 99′ defenseman for the Syracuse Stars U-16 team has taken an offer to play at Boston University and will likely be with the USNTDP next season, but don’t count the OHL out. In recent OHL Draft rankings Farrance was routinely rated in the top 10 of players available.
