NYS Hockey – Looking back at the 12′ State Tournament
In 2012 the best bantam hockey teams in New York were the Long Island Gulls (AYHL) led by current USNTDP star and high-end NHL draft prospect Jeremy Bracco and the Buffalo Regals.
While Bracco was probably the best offensive player on that team, he plenty of support, most notably current USHLer’s Grant Josefek (Northeastern) Nolan Aibel (Yale) and USNTDP star defenseman Adam Fox (Harvard). There was also Troy Conzo (U-Mass) defenseman Steven Ruggiero (Penn State) and Charles McAvoy (Boston Bruins). It was a pretty stacked team. That Gulls team played in the AYHL with the eventual national champion Willkes-Barre / Scranton Knights who were lead by Alex Rowella, Russian imports Nikita Anistratenki and Nikita Pavlychek and current 2015 NHL Draft prospect Daniel Sprong, a Canadian import.
(Wilkes-Barre / Scranton beat the St. Louis Jr. Blues in the National Championship).
Long Island won the state title that year, but they were challenged by a powerful Buffalo Regals squad. The Regals were led by current Brampton Battalion (OHL) forward Owen Green, Carson Gicewicz (St.Lawrence) and (F) Matt D’Amico. Current Michigan commit Joe Cecconi was on defense and Aaron Fanti and Tyler Johnson (OHL) were in net.
