This list will give you a player by player look at the 2014-2015 U-17 team that will represent USA Hockey. These are the players selected as the best within their age group by USA Hockey. There were a few players USA Hockey wanted, but couldn’t sign – such as Logan Brown of the Indiana Jr. Ice who will likely sign with the Niagara Icedogs (OHL) who drafted him with the 6th overall pick in the OHL Entry Draft.
It’s interesting to note that 10 of these players came from 3 total teams : Shattuck St. Mary’s (U-16’s) – St. Louis Blues (U-16’s) and Honeybaked (U-16’s).
Shattuck St. Mary’s – (F) Keller (F) McPhee (D) Lindgren (D) Greenway
St. Louis Blues – (F) Frederic (D) Martin (G) Woll
Honeybaked – (F) Khodorenko (F) Pastujov (F) Jones
(F) – Joey Anderson – Hill-Murray HS – MN-Duluth commit – He’s shown he can score, his statistics are impressive. In 25 games 21-29-50 points. He’s coming from a top tier Minnesota high school team, should be a contributor for this team, probably not the star.
(F) Trent Frederic – St.Louis Blues U-16’s – The leading scorer of a loaded St.Louis Blues team. In 32 games had 11-19-30 points.
(F) Keegan Howdeshell – Compuware U-16’s – One of the later invites to the team. In 50 games had 11-9-20 points.
(F) Max Jones – Honeybaked U-16’s – Highly regarded player is wanted equally bad by 2 elite programs – the Plymouth Whalers (OHL) and the Michigan Wolverines (NCAA). In 25 games had 9-13-22 points.
(F) William Lockwood – Oakland Grizzlies U-16’s – Michigan – 19-19-38 for Oakland Grizzlies team.
(F) Clayton Keller – Shattuck St. Mary’s U-16 – Boston University – He’s a scorer and will likely be a scorer on this team too. In 55 games had 31 goals and 36 assists. OHL wants Keller, but look for him to end up in the NCAA.
(F) Graham McPhee – Shattuck St. Mary’s U-16 – Boston College – Like Keller, from SSM and going to Boston powerhouse. Not as much of a scorer, but a good player certainly. In 55 games had 25-30-55 points.
(F) James Sanchez – CYA – Michigan – In 59 games had 22-35-57 points.
(F) Nick Pasujov – Honeybaked U-16’s – The Florida native was the captain of the loaded Honeybaked midget min team. In 15 league games he had 6-13 for 19 points.
(F) Patrick Khodorenko – Honeybaked U-16’s – The California native (yes, they recruit!) is a scorer. In 22 games had 9-21-30. He should be one of the leading scorers for the USNTDP, top 2 line player.
(F) Zach Walker – Colorado Thunderbirds U-16’s – He had 13-17-30 for the National Champion runner-up team.
About the D : Interesting thing about the ‘D’ here, there are only 2 for NCAA coaches to recruit. The rest are committed to programs already. Also, I will put this list in order of skill and overall ranking.
(D) Chad Krys – NJ Rockets U-19’s – An offensive defender who is solid in his own end. Krys has played against older competition for awhile. In 26 games had 8-22-30 points. Seems like he’ll end up at a Hockey East power program.
(D) Ryan Lindgren – Shattuck St. Mary’s U-16’s – Minnesota – An absolute talent, he dominated with the SSM bantam squad when they won the National tournament. Lindgren is highly skilled, might be an early selection in the 2015 NHL Draft.
(D) Adam Fox – Long Island U-16’s – Harvard – If he does end up at Harvard, it will be quite the coup for them, he should be a very effective player at the NCAA level. This is a ‘D’ who can score in bunches, lit up the HS level for a season. In just 22 games for Long Island he had 14-37-51 points.
(D) Luke Martin – St.Louis Blues U-16’s – Michigan – A big powerful defender going to Michigan, sounds familiar. Martin was probably the best player on a really good St.Louis midget team. He had 4-17-21 from the blue line.
(D) Griffin Luce – Salisbury Prep – Michigan – Played for the best team in New England Prep School hockey and won a championship. He’s from New York, but has played in Canada. A talented and intelligent player who in 26 games had 5-4-9 points.
(D) James Greenway – Shattuck St. Mary’s U-16’s – Has 2 really talented brothers and he might be just as good. A big defender that will be recruited by many programs in the coming year. In 51 games had 6-17-23 points.
(D) Michael Campoli – St. Lac Louis Lions –
(D) Matthew Hellickson – Rodgers HS (MN) – Notre Dame – Played for a smaller school in Minnesota but he was good. Had 5-23-28 to lead the ‘D’, can play in his own end too. Was a later invite to the roster.
These goaltenders beat out some impressive competition. Not on the roster : Michael Latorella (Honeybaked) Stephen Dhillion (Buffalo Regals) and Ryan Edquist (Shattuck St. Mary’s) each of whom will likely excel with different programs.
(G) Joseph Woll – St.Louis Blues U-16’s – Harvard – He’s as solid as they come. In 18 GP was 13-4-1 with a 1.71 GAA and .931 S% for a really good midget team.
(G) Jake Oettinger – Lakeville North HS (MN) – He lead his HS team to the Minnesota state championship game as a freshman, that’s impressive. In 19 GP was 7-2-1 with a 1.86 GAA and a .931 S%.
